Water Softener Kit, 75 L

Hard water passes through the resin, calcium and magnesium stick to the beads and sodium takes their place. A 75 litre bed softens about 20 000 litres of moderately hard water (200 mg/L as calcium carbonate) between regenerations. On the nights you set, the valve draws brine from the tank, regenerates the bed, rinses and refills the tank, and the house never notices.

1. Stand the vessel, fit the strainer to the riser and drop the riser in, capped. Pour in the three bags of resin.
2. Clip the top distributor to the valve, screw the valve on, connect inlet, outlet and drain.
3. Stand the brine tank beside it, connect the 3/8 inch brine line, fill the tank with the salt tablets.
4. Set the regeneration days and hour on the keypad, run a manual regeneration, and it is on duty.

Keep the brine tank at least a third full of tablets: roughly 8 to 20 kg per regeneration, one to two bags a month for a family. Rinse the sludge out of the tank once a year. The resin lasts eight to twelve years; a carbon stage ahead of it on chlorinated water and iron removal ahead of it on a borehole keep it there.
