Filter media
Loose media by the bag for FRP vessels: AFM glass for sediment and turbidity, activated carbon for chlorine and taste, calcite for low pH, cation resin and salt for softening, and siliphos for scale. Each bag says how many fill a vessel and how long it lasts.

What the media costs, by the bag and by the vessel.
A 75 litre vessel takes three 25 kg bags of AFM, one grade 2 under two grade 1: R925 a bag of grade 1 and R925 a bag of grade 2. Two 20 kg bags of activated carbon at R1 995 fill it for a carbon stage; three 25 kg bags of calcite at R895 for pH correction; three 25 litre bags of resin at R1 195 for a softener, with salt tablets at R295 for 10 kg.
How long each lasts: AFM ten years or more, carbon one to three years, calcite topped up every six to twelve months, resin eight to ten years, siliphos (R145 a kilogram) as its own page says. Media is bulky and always ships at the quoted courier rate, whatever the order value.
