55 Watt UV Ballast
The electronics. Indicator on the front, surge protector recommended.
Electronic ballast for a 55 watt 4-pin UV-C lamp, 220 to 240 volt, with a power indicator and the lamp lead fitted. It is the part that lightning and load-shedding surges take out, so it is the spare we sell most after the lamp. Mount it dry, plug it through a surge protector, and it lasts.
What it does
A UV lamp needs a high voltage to strike and a controlled current to run. The ballast supplies both from the mains and shows a green light while it is doing so. When the lamp is dark and the light is off, the ballast has failed; when the light is on and the lamp is dark, the lamp has.
Fitting
Power off. Unplug the old ballast's lamp connector at the gland nut and unscrew the box from the wall. Screw the new one up somewhere dry, above any possible splash, plug the lamp lead in, then the mains through a surge protector. The whole job is ten minutes.
