55 Watt UV Lamp, Replacement
The only part that wears. Once a year, whether it looks tired or not.
A 55 watt T5 UV-C lamp at 254 nanometres, single-ended 4-pin base, 925 mm without the pins. Fits the Water Experts 55 watt steriliser and most 55 watt stainless units sold in South Africa. Change it every 9 000 hours: it still glows at twelve months, but the germicidal output has dropped by a third.
Check it fits
Measure the old lamp: 925 mm from the base to the tip without the pins, 935 mm with them, 15 mm across, four pins in a square on one end, the other end sealed. That is this lamp. A lamp with two pins at each end is a T8 pond lamp and will not fit a drinking water chamber.
Changing it
- Switch off at the plug and let the lamp cool for ten minutes.
- Unscrew the gland nut at the cable end and draw the lamp out by its ceramic base, connector and all.
- Unplug the connector, plug it onto the new lamp. Hold the new lamp by the base only: a fingerprint on the glass bakes on and shades the light. Wipe with alcohol if you touch it.
- Slide it home, gland nut on, switch on. Never look at the lit lamp.
