Why both at once
The lamp is due every 9 000 hours, which is a year. The sleeve comes out at the same service to be cleaned, and that is when it cracks or chips at the open end, usually on a Sunday. With both in the box the service happens once, the chamber is sealed with new O-rings, and the unit goes back to the dose it was sized for.
Fitting, fifteen minutes
- Switch off at the plug and let the lamp cool for ten minutes. Close the bypass or the stop tap and open a tap to drop the pressure.
- Unscrew the gland nut, unplug the connector and draw the old lamp out by its ceramic base.
- Draw the old sleeve out, fit the new O-rings on the new sleeve and slide it home.
- Plug the connector onto the new lamp, holding it by the base only, slide it into the sleeve and tighten the gland nut by hand.
- Open the water, check for drips, switch on. Never look at the lit lamp.
