100 Litre Brine Tank, Complete
Salt in, brine out. The tank a softener drinks from.
A 100 litre white polyethylene brine tank with the lid, the brine well, the salt grid and the 35 inch safety float valve fitted. Holds about 75 kg of salt tablets. Connects to the F63C1 valve with 3/8 inch brine line; the float shuts the refill if the valve ever overfills, so the softener cannot flood the room.

After each regeneration the softener valve puts a measured amount of water back into the tank. It sits on the salt grid, dissolves salt from the tablets above, and becomes saturated brine. At the next regeneration the valve draws that brine up the well and through the resin. The float in the well is the safety: if the valve fails open, the float closes and the tank stops filling.
Keeping it
Use tablets, not coarse salt, which bridges into a crust with a hollow underneath and the softener quietly stops working. Keep the tank at least a third full. Once a year, when it is nearly empty, tip out the sludge at the bottom and rinse it.
