75 Litre FRP Vessel with Riser and Distributors

The tank a filter or softener is built in. With the parts everyone else sells separately.

A 12 by 52 inch fibreglass pressure vessel, 307 mm across and 1 335 mm tall: 85 litres in total, 75 litres of media once the freeboard is left for backwashing. Rated 10 bar, 2.5 inch top opening. In the box, not sold separately: the 27 mm riser pipe cut for the vessel, the top distributor and the bottom strainer, so it takes a Runxin valve straight out of the box.

In detail

75 litres or 85 litres

Both, and shops that quote one number without saying which are why plant gets sized wrong. The shell holds 85 litres. A media bed needs 30 to 50% of its depth empty above it so the grains can lift and separate during a backwash; fill it to the neck and the backwash pushes media down the drain. 75 litres of media is the working fill for AFM, carbon or resin, with a little less for calcite.

What goes on top

Any 2.5 inch valve: the F56A1 manual and F67C1 automatic filter valves, or the F63C1 softener valve. The riser is cut to length for this vessel and the top distributor clips into the valve base; the bottom strainer glues to the riser. Nothing to measure, nothing to buy from a second shop.

Backwash flow

The drain has to take it: about 50 litres a minute for AFM (3 m³/h), 30 for carbon and calcite, under 15 for resin. If the pump cannot deliver that to the drain, the bed does not lift and the media clogs. A booster pump ahead of the plant, or a smaller vessel, are the two fixes.
