Stages one to three. Every six months.
The three cartridges that do the dirty work and wear the fastest: 5 micron sediment, GAC and carbon block. Fits the AquaShield and every standard 10 inch system. Fit it every six months and the membrane, the expensive stage, lasts its full three years.
Why every six months
The sediment stage blocks, which you can see. The two carbon stages saturate, which you cannot. Once the carbon block stops holding chlorine, the chlorine reaches the membrane and quietly destroys it over a few weeks. A R159 kit twice a year is what stands between you and a R395 membrane every six months.
Fitting, fifteen minutes
- Close the feed valve and the tank valve. Open the tap until it stops.
- Unscrew the three vertical housings with the spanner from the original box. Have a towel under them.
- Sediment in housing one, GAC in housing two (gasket up), carbon block in housing three (gasket up).
- Check the O-rings are seated, hand-tighten, open the feed, check for drips.
- Open the tank valve and run the tap for five minutes. Grey water is carbon fines, harmless.
What is not in it
The membrane, the post-carbon and the re-mineraliser. Those are yearly or longer and come in the full service kit. Buy this kit twice a year and the full kit when the membrane is due.
